Pricing: $150 total cost - I am making this workshop extremely affordable! Other astrophotographers charge 100's of dollars for this type of workshop, which is totally fine.  But for me, with these types of workshops I am extremely dedicated to sharing my passion for imaging the night sky and what it all means to me to everyone, so I do my absolute best to reflect that through my pricing.  Also because I have many photographer friends, who like me, spend 99% of their budget on camera gear and travelling, so I know how it goes :]

Topics Covered: Including but not limited to

• Learning about and planning your Milky Way shots around the Milky Way core schedule, moon cycles, light pollution and locations.

• Discuss astrophotography equipment like lenses, camera bodies, intervalometers, and even advanced gear like german equatorial mounts, dew heaters, software, and post processing softwares.

• Finding an artistic and interesting composition and foreground and what factors contribute in making a high quality astrophoto.

• How to set up your gear and learning to maximize the full potential of your astrophotography set up.

• Astrophotography techniques like how to focus your camera at night, orient yourself in the dark, find the Milky Way and important night sky constellations, stars, and celestial objects.

• Concepts about balancing a proper exposure and the exposure triangle with ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed.

• Understanding concepts like Signal, Noise, Rule of 500, Coma, Chromatic Aberrations.

• We will also discuss about innovative astrophotography topics like Signal to Noise Ratio, Quantum Effeciency, Tracking, Stacking.

• Post processing and how what you can do in the lightroom (and photoshop) relates to your shooting technique. This workshop includes a follow up post processing video!

What do I need to bring?

• A DSLR or Mirrorless camera body that has Manual mode capabilities. If you have never used your camera, please bring your user manual- I excel with Nikon gear but am only OKAY with newer Sony and Canon camera bodies.

• A wide angle lens within the range of 10mm-35mm and an aperture of at least f/2.8 is recommended. However I do shoot anywhere from 14mm-75mm myself and will show you panorama techniques with longer focal length lenses that I love to use.

• A tripod with appropriate mounting gear for your camera (I use a simple ballhead mount)

• A headlamp with redlight capabilities (jimmies will be ruffled if you blast someone's night eyes with white light)

• Memory cards and batteries. You can never have too many!

• An intervalometer for exposures longer than 30 seconds.

• Appropriate warm clothing and close toed shoes.

• Snax! LOTS of snacks. And water. Night's can get long and you tired, so I recommend energy drinks, coffee, and proper nutrition to help keep you going through the night. I am known for sharing my own astro snax, if you're into watermelon sour patch candy, spicy nuts, and bananas.

• A fold out camping chair recommended for for those who get tired during shooting and want to rest their legs inbetween exposures. Standing and bending over while operating your camera can become tiring!

Group Size: 6 students

Schedule: We meet up at our shooting location in Sedona on September 23rd, at 5:30pm until officially 10:37pm when the Milky Way visibility goes away, but if you would like to stay around and shoot after (I probably will until 3am) you are more than welcome to.  That gives us plenty of time to talk and meet one another, a short (under 1 mile) hike to our epic shooting location and to set up our gear, talk obsessively about astrophotography, and learn an immense amount about landscape astrophotography and how to take beautiful images of the night sky.

Location: Sedona, Arizona 2 hours North of Phoenix. (for privacy reasons, exact coordinates within Sedona are not released until participants sign up). Once you sign up the exact location coordinates, detailed schedule, contact info and other details will be sent out :)
