The Milky Way galactic band rising over Lake Powell. This is steps away from our camp spot at Alstrom Point! We have easy access to shoot all phases of light and night time here. Sunrise is my favorite!
difficulty
This astro + photography workshop geared towards intermediate adventurers and photographers who seek an adventure photo trip immersed in stunning desert canyon backcountry, and are okay with forgoing comforts in exchange for a rewarding experience in nautre. This trip requires decent mobility and at times requires you to carry your camera gear 1.2 miles with 600 feet of elevation gain. You must be free of mobility issues and comfortable being in moderate proximity to heights and canyon overlooks.
what you will learn
Everything photography! We specialize in long exposure night photography shooting and editing techniques, however we have tons of opportunities to do landscape photography. We teach blue hour blending, star tracking, panoramas, color theory, advanced noise and star reduction, and much more. We do edit sessions at our hotels/in restaurants and follow up the workshop with a custom editing video using the images we took.
Emerald Sanctuary in the Back Country of Lake Powell. My favorite place to hang out during the day, eat lunch, and enjoy the emerald water and lurid orange sandstone canyon light up with warm light!
group size
This workshop is limited to 4 participants with 2 instructor guides. We like to keep our group sizes small (some workshops say 10:2 student to teacher ratio is “small”, which is ridiculous!) so we can give you lots of one-on-one instruction and tailor our lessons to your individual goals and needs. These trips are astro + photography learning based but we keep our learning environment relaxed, jovial, and full of personable people ready to make awesome memories together!
