Join us this June in Kanab, Utah in the epicenter of geologic wonders and dark skies!
Based out of a large Airbnb house in Kanab, we will be 4x4ing you around to world class geological wonders like White Pocket and the sandstone chamber views above! The combination of vibrant colored rock expanses, arid high desert climate, and Bortle 1 dark skies make Kanab a night photographers dream location! We do a mix of staying at our house to rest up and do our editing classes and a few nights out camping so we’ll have front row spots for all the best light an access to spots like White Pocket. We handle all the 4x4 and camping logistics and gear so you can focus your energy on enjoying the soul touching beauty, enjoying our small group of nature and photography lovers, and learning the art of night photography from industry leading experts!
The size of this workshop will be kept small to 8 participants to 3 teachers, to ensure everyone gets plenty of one-on-one instruction! Some in our industry call a 12 student to 2 teachers a “small workshop”, which is absolutely insane, but they also don’t teach tracking, panoramas, image blending, and more advance astrophotography techniques like we do that require more attention to detail. As always, our goal is to help you realize your creative potential, provide lessons to equip you with new creative techniques, guide you safely to amazing places, and send you home with amazing photos and unforgettable memories!
The Rainbow Hills of bentonite are one of Kanab’s most extraordinary yet lesser known features! The colors really pop during sunset and twilight when we take you out there- we stay out and capture the Milky Way galaxy rising over them, it’s one inspiring adventure and scene to witness!
logistics and lodging
We start in Kanab, Utah at 4pm on June 7th and end in Kanab, Utah, at 9am on June 12th
Everyone is responsible for their transportation to and from the workshop. Once in Kanab, we will arrange caravans and handle all 4x4 transportation to our shooting locations and camping adventures! We can provide airport pick up and drop off for a fee if you fly in and out of Page, Arizona- please inquire for assistance!
We have a big house in Kanab we will be based out of for the week! Single occupancy rooms. We’ll use this as our headquarters for our editing sessions and cleaning/resting up inbetween adventures. Kanab has lots of great food options and we’ll do some impromptu group meals. We will be camping at White Pocket and Alstrom Point for 2 out of the 5 nights so we can have front row access for sunset, twilight, Milky Way, and sunrise! We provide all 4x4 transportation, camping gear, and meals while shooting in the backcountry.
difficulty and group size
This astrophotography workshop is great for ALL levels of adventurers and astrophotographers. We will cover astrophotography basics and build up to more advanced techniques like tracked panoramas. Our small group size, 6 students to 2 teachers (some workshops have 12 students and only 2 teachers and call that small… crazy!) allows us to tailor lessons individually and give lots of 1on1 hands on instruction under the stars.

workshop cost & payment terms
The tuition for this workshop is $4,500 total. A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 is required to reserve your spot with the remaining balance due 60 days before the workshop starts. Alumni, please reach out for a discount as it depends on a few factors! Payment plan options are also available at check out.

This workshop is limited to 6 participants! We offer discounts for groups of friends and our alumni supporters, and in some situations can bring a non-photography +1 for a fee, please inquire.
itinerary
June 7th
We meet around 4pm in Kanab, Utah on June 7th and the workshop finishes at 9am in Kanab, Utah on June 12th.
We’ll meet around 4pm in Kanab at our Airbnb, do a quick introduction and sunset shoot nearby, then head to a group dinner in town. We’ll catch some sleep at the house, then head out early in the AM to our nearby first shoot capturing a massive sandstone cave view that has an amazing view towards the Milky Way Galaxy rising!

Waking up at Alstrom point is INSANE! We camp right on the rim overlook Lake Powell. Typically we’ll do Bison Burgers, drinks, and enjoy an easy sunset and twilight here with our tents right near the rim with these views. That was when the Milky Way is up, you can roll right out of your tent to insane views of the night sky. Those with the energy are encouraged to get up and great the warm sunrise with their cameras!
June 8th
We’ll sleep in after our first night of shooting, folks are welcome to grab breakfast and lunch in town as there are lots of great options in Kanab! We’ll do an editing session in the early afternoon and go over our shooting plan for the night!
