May 15 - 19, 2026

Join us on a true backcountry astrophotography experience as we immerse ourselves into the labyrinth of Lake Powell!

We boat you over 100+ miles through pristine orange sandstone canyons, across emerald green water, and out under pristine starry skies! Enjoy backcountry beaches, Arizona sunshine, and pristine dark Bortle 1 night skies during the best time of year! There is truly a unique night photography experience like no other, we take care of all the complicated logistics so you can show up and enjoy soul touching backcountry beauty and custom night photography lessons in world class desert wilderness.

The size of this workshop will be kept small to 4 participants, to ensure everyone gets plenty of one-on-one instruction with Derek Culver and Andrew Imhoff. As always, our goal is to help you realize your creative potential, provide lessons to equip you with new creative techniques, guide you safely to amazing places, and send you home with amazing photos and unforgettable memories!

Do you ever imagine what it’s like to camp out under the starriest skies in the United States like a cowboy, surrounded by world class geological wonders with group of like-minded photographers?  This is one of the views we camp at!

logistics and lodging

We start in Page, Arizona at 4pm on May 15th and end in Page, Arizona at 9am on May 19th

Every one is responsible for their transportation to and from the workshop, once in Page, we handle all transportation and accommodations throughout the trip. There are easy daily flights from Phoenix, and we are happy to pick you up at the airport in Page!

We provide all the boat and 4x4 transportation for this trip along with all necessary camping gear. We are camping for 3 nights and then provide hotel rooms for the last night where we do our post processing sessions together.

difficulty and group size

This astrophotography workshop is best for intermediate to advanced level adventurers and photographers. We will cover astrophotography basics and build up to more advanced techniques like tracking the sky and blending images. Our small group size, 4 students to 2 teachers (some workshops have 12 students and only 2 teachers and call that small… crazy!) allows us to tailor lessons individually and give lots of 1on1 hands on instruction under the stars. For post processing we will end our trip in a hotel while doing an easy adventure to Horseshoe Bend, and will focus on editing our images from the 4x4 and boating part of the trip!
